Visiting to Anchorage (How to request Visiting Controller status)

Welcome to the Anchorage ARTCC Visiting Controller homepage. This page contains all the information you will need to begin a request for visiting controller status in the Anchorare ARTCC.

The first thing to ensure is that you meet the minimum rating requirements. Due to the staff's desire not to negatively effect other ARTCC's ability to staff airports we ask that you hold a minimum controller rating of "Senior Student" or S3. This will allow you to quickly learn our local procedures and radar techniques and begin working our positions as soon as possible. Those members holding either Student1/Student2 ratings may still apply, but will be considered on a case by case basis by the ZAN Facilities Advisory Board.

The next step is to review the Anchorage Visiting/Transferring controller policy. After that you will also need to read our Standard Operating Guidelines. In that document you will find detailed information on how the facility staff works at Anchorage, as well as minimum time requiremnets for both Anchorage-based, and visiting controllers. Please ensure you can meet these guidelines before applying, as failure to remain active will result in controller priviledges being revoked within Anchorage ARTCC.

If you are sure you have met all the requirments, and are ready to begin the application process, click here to send an email to the appropriate staff. You should hear back from us within 24-48 hours, with instructions on how to proceed.

Please include the following information when emailing your application:

Name
CID
Current VATSIM Rating
Currently assigned ARTCC
"Why you want to visit at Anchorage"

After receipt of your application you will be assigned an exam through the VATUSA Exam Center. You will need to login with your VATSIM CID and Password to access this area. You must make a minimum score of 80% to continue the application process. Once you have successfully completed the exam then a member of the Anchorage staff will contact your current Air Traffic Manager/Chief and/or Training Administrator for a recommendation and any relevant training history.

I hope you will find controlling at Anchorage to be a very rewarding and pleasureable experience. Should you have any problems, or need assistance with any aspect of visiting at Anchorage please feel free to email any member of the staff. Our emails can be found on the Roster page, at the top of the list for easy reference. You may also email the me directly at atm@vzanartcc.net

Best regards,

Kenneth Haught
