Welcome to the Anchorage ARTCC (ZAN) Training Center. Your exciting virtual ATC career begins here! This page will provide you with the necessary first steps a new member must take to begin his/her controlling career. Please review all the information below and, if you have questions, please feel free to contact a ZAN staff member! Prior to beginning, please download the current ZAN Sector File found in the downloads section and then get online, observe, and ask questions. Much can be learned by observing and listening to fellow ZAN controllers.
STEP 1: REQUEST TRAINING
As a new student it is your responsibility to request training dates and times. ZAN instructors and mentors will post their availability in the training section of the ZAN Forums located here. Instructors may also schedule open training sessions on the ZAN teamspeak server. Instructions regarding the teamspeak server and information regarding these sessions may also be found in the ZAN Forums.
If you would like to schedule an individual training session, you must e-mail the instructor or mentor offering the training to reserve the date and time requested. The instructor will then return the request with an approval or denial. Please remember the training staff has an open door policy. Feel free to e-mail them for assistance at anytime.
STEP 2: BEGIN REVIEWING LESSON OUTLINES
All ZAN controllers must meet the minimum competency requirements outlined in the VATUSA Training documnets. Training and exams will be based on materials found on the VATUSA Training website, along with ZAN local procedures and letters of agreement. As part of the training regimen, you may be responsible for completing required reading issued by your instructor or mentor prior to a training session. Several cheat sheets are available for download and have been created to help you get started. All ZAN training documents, cheat sheets, standard operating procedures, and reference materials are available for viewing and downloading here.
